More on Ghandi

Here is another great quote from Ghandi that was on Basic Daily Devotions today:

Gandhi's Life Mission
Gandhi was asked to describe in twenty-five words or less what his life mission was...

He said, "I could do it in three: Renounce and enjoy." You renounce all worldly attachment to everything and enjoy what God gives you. You give away what you have inside yourself, your love. You're not concerned with whether it worked or didn't work, whether it was right or wrong, whether you won or lost. You just constantly flow through your life without getting attached to the results. The irony is that the less attached you are, the more you get. The more you keep circulating, the more keeps coming back to you. It's a flowing system.

I know that Ghandi is a bit controversial to some, but he has some great insight as to how we are to live our life. Despite the fact that he didn't believe in Christ, he certainly understood Christ's message and has wonderful insight as to how we should be living out a Christ-like life.

Agreed! That sounds much like what Christ said and other non-believers have said many of the same things.

So again I ask,are we to look to unbelievers for our Scriptural insight?
Not all who wander are lost indeed. They simply refuse to enter the promised land, just as rebellious Israel did.

This statement is food for thought:
"Despite the fact that he didn't believe in Christ, he certainly understood Christ's message and has wonderful insight as to how we should be living out a Christ-like life."

This is the battle ground of the age. Do we believe in an objective, absolute, propositional Truth, or its relativistic counterpart. Methods do not save, and neither does the "journey".

Chris, again, you don't "get it". I think un-believers have great insight. If you don't think so, then you have separated yourself from them to the point that you are disconnected and not able to reach them. They are the "normal" ones--we are "abnormal"

Chris,

I'm not claiming that methods save us. I'm simply making the point that some non-Christians, live a better "Christian life" than some Christians I know.

I claim and will always claim that it is Christ's blood that saves us, and it is only His blood that saves us. God graced us with His mercy, unnecessarily. I have never said otherwise. Christ is the focus and center of Christianity, always has been, always will be. No disputing that here....don't twist the issue that you just don't like quote that are from non-Christians, even if the point they are proving is true. If you read C.S. Lewis (a famous Christian Author), you'll find several of his famous quotes referring to how to reach to the non-Christian, proving God exists and then using that to prove why Christ must be real and that His blood is what saves. So tell me, what is wrong with using Ghandi's full of meaning quote to prove a point and possibly use it to reach other non-Christians to help them see that those loud mouth hypocritical Christians, that you have to admit do exist, are not the majority of the Christians in the world. They are just the loudest, most obnoxious.

I'd love to hear your thoughts....thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Okay, here are my thoughts:

"So tell me, what is wrong with using Ghandi's full of meaning quote to prove a point and possibly use it to reach other non-Christians to help them see that those loud mouth hypocritical Christians, that you have to admit do exist, are not the majority of the Christians in the world. Not a very subtle insult at all.
:-)

Teresa,
I get it just fine. Why don't you ask Maryellen how disconnected I am from the rest of the world, since I am the worship leader at the church she attends and oversee the dance team, my idea btw, that she dances on. Unbelievers are "normal"?

As for CS Lewis, I am not a big fan of his either.

The Gospel is Jesus Christ, and Him crucified according to Paul. Jesus said if He is lifted up He would draw all men to Himself. Like the bronze serpent of Moses He will save men who look unto Him.
He also said that no man comes to Him unless the Father instigates the drawing.
The Blood atonement saves and we receive that salvation by grace, through faith, which is given to us by God, as we have no inherent faith at all. That faith comes by "hearing" and hearing by the Word of God. Please don't say that Jesus is the Word. The Scriptures only say that in two places, all other references are to the spoken logos, which becomes rhema in the hearts of those who are the good soil. The Word and the WORD are inseparable. Anyway, if the Bible is not the inerrant and infallible Word, then even the statements referring to Jesus as WORD are suspect; since it could be one man's opinion. The problem is no one wants to simply preach the Word. We are not called to make the message relevant. We are called to proclaim. God saves, not us or our methods. Let the Word do its work. This is why I would never quote Ghandi as part of a "contextualized" Gospel. Paul in Athens quoted the Greek poets to show that they were wrong, and had no clue to what they were talking about. This is only one time that we read of the apostles preaching in such a manner so it is not the “norm”. It was not a very fruitful endeavor either.

Here is a link that may give you some insight as to where Ghandi really stood. The man was a social reformer and had an agenda. This is not an anti-Ghandi article btw.

Acts 2: 42-47 says that they found favor with everyone who saw how they lived. It does not say that they came to salvation because of their example. It says the Lord added daily those who were being saved. So it is at the Lord’s discretion, and only when they preached, that men came to salvation.

I have always found it quite amazingly sad that the brothers who advocate the preaching of the Word, are vilified in favor of the wisdom of unbelievers.
Finally, we mistakenly look at the Pharisees as merely legalists and “fundies”. They in fact did not adhere to Scripture much at all. The adhered to all the talmudic garbage they encrusted the Scriptures with, Jesus and the apostles quoted Scripture more than any other persons in the NT. So the Pharisees are not merely religious; they are the ones who tweaked the Word to fit their particular theology. So I ask who are the real Pharisees today?

John 5:37-47; Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 10:12-17; Acts 17:22-34; Isaiah 5:20-21

Chris,

Just to clarify, I wasn't, nor did I mean to insult you. I was simply stating that there are very loud, obnoxious hypocritical Christians out there that ruin the name of Christ.

I appreciate your thoughts, but I still think you're missing the point. But, I can agree to disagree.

Please explain the point then???
